A Glimpse of Sweetgreen’s Founder, Nathaniel Ru

Most companies would like to start from scratch and accomplish more like Sweetgreen. Sweetgreen is a fast food restaurant based in Georgetown and was founded in 2007 by three graduates Nathaniel Ru, Nicholas Jammet and Jonathan Neman. Read more:  Sweetgreen | Wikipedia

The three founders were influenced to open the restaurant because Georgetown had inadequate eating alternatives. Sweetgreen now operates countrywide with more than 50 stores in the United States and more than one thousand seven hundred employees employed on a full-time basis.

Sweetgreen is in favor of good living, health, community, and sustainability. The first eatery was located in the M street downtown where most Georgetown University students had their meals. The business has been existence for more than 10 years.

The co-founders had difficulties in finding a place to locate their business and to manage it. Nathaniel Ru explains that their business plan was short with only three pages. The restaurant was to be named Greens.

Sweetgreen provides fresh and healthy food to its customers mostly located near the stores in the northeastern parts of the United States. The food chain gets its products from local farmers.

The food chain conducts an annual festival called the Sweetlife Music Festival which is not only a music but also a food festival. The festival which is one of the largest events in Washington D.C provides a common ground where the employees and executives at Sweetgreen bond with their potential customers.

The events attract more the 20,000 people including professional chefs, farmers, and potential customers. The eatery recorded high sales and profits in the stores where employees worked for longer periods. The employees are also motivated to work harder by being treated and awarded for the success of the business.

Nathaniel Ru is an active entrepreneur. He is also an investor and a businessman. He was born in May 1985. His dad moved to the United States from Taiwan where he established a business that imported goods from the Asian countries in Los Angeles.

Nathaniel is an alumnus of the Georgetown University McDonough School of Business where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance. He took part in co-founding Sweetgreen restaurant alongside his friends in 2007 immediately after their graduation.

Nathaniel is the current Chief Executive Officer of Sweetgreen. He is also the principal of SWTLF ventures. Apart from living a simple life, Nathaniel is a voracious reader. His favorite restaurant apart from Sweetgreen is Little Serow in Washington.
